# CyanDB setup documentation

> Learn how to prepare a domain, verify a destination inbox, review mail routing, and organize custom email aliases with CyanDB.

Use these steps to understand the setup before changing DNS or relying on a new email address. CyanDB currently helps you review configuration; it does not route real email.

## 1\. Add a domain you control

Enter your domain in the workspace and use the provided TXT record to confirm ownership. TXT verification confirms ownership; it does not route email or change your existing mail setup.

## 2\. Add a destination inbox

Choose the inbox that should receive messages for an alias, then complete its verification flow before selecting it as a destination.

## 3\. Review current mail routing

Check existing MX records and your provider’s instructions before making changes. MX changes can interrupt incoming mail if they conflict with your current setup.

## 4\. Create and review an alias

Choose a clear address name, connect it to your domain and destination, and review the routing details. Read our guides for [freelancers](https://cyandb.com/custom-email-for-freelancers/), [small businesses](https://cyandb.com/small-business-email-forwarding/), and [startups](https://cyandb.com/email-aliases-for-startups/).

## Current limitations

The current email-routing provider is a mock. CyanDB does not deliver or forward email or automatically edit DNS. Do not rely on this service for live email delivery.
